No employer required upfront. Once you have a contract, you switch to a long-term work residence permit. The Post-Graduation TRP Extension

After completing your degree, you don't have to leave Estonia immediately. You can apply to extend your study TRP for up to 270 days for the purpose of job searching.

Eligibility

  • Completed a full-time study programme at an Estonian university (bachelor's, master's, or PhD)
  • Valid study TRP at the time of application

How to Apply

Switching to a Work TRP

Once you have a job offer (employment contract signed), you apply to switch from the post-graduation extension to a long-term residence permit for employment.

After 18 Months

Renew if your company is still operating and you can show progress (investor meetings, revenue, product development). If your startup has grown, you may qualify for a long-term residence permit through the standard employment route as the company's own employee.

e-Residency: Useful but Separate

e-Residency (€120 application fee) lets you register and run an EU-based company online from anywhere in the world. It's not a visa or residence right — it's a digital identity for business. What if I can't find a job in 270 days?

The extension is not renewable as a job-search permit. If you don't have a job by then, you must leave Estonia unless you have another legal basis for staying (e.g. Startup Visa, family reunification, or re-enrollment).
